Before Your Appointment

Know before you go.

Most guys walk into their first consultation not knowing what to ask. Here's what you need to know beforehand — so you show up like you've done this before.

Understanding base types

Thin Skin Poly

Most natural-looking hairline. Best for exposed styles — slicked back, brushed up. Easy to clean, takes adhesive well. May feel warm for heavy sweaters. Lasts 2–3 months.

Thicker Poly (0.06–0.08mm)

Best for obscured or partially exposed hairlines — forward, tousled, messy styles. Slightly less visible edge. Lasts 4–5 months.

Lace / Hybrid

Most breathable and comfortable. Best for active lifestyles and heavy sweaters. Lasts 4–5 months. Requires more careful maintenance than poly.

Exposed hairline style → thin skin poly  ·  Obscured/messy style → thicker poly  ·  Active + heavy sweater → lace or hybrid

First 24–48 hours

Give your bond 24–48 hours to fully set before any water — no showers, swimming, or heavy sweating.

A shower cap is your best friend for the first couple days. After that you're good to go.

Week one reality check

The first week is the hardest — not physically, just mentally. You'll check the mirror constantly. You'll wonder if people can tell. They can't.

By week two most guys just see their hair. The guys who struggle the longest walked in without realistic expectations. But that won't be you.

What maintenance looks like

Partial DIY — Salon installs your new system, you maintain at home every 10–14 days. Each session: remove the system, clean old adhesive from base and scalp, prep the scalp, re-adhere with your preferred adhesive. About 1.5 hours including the shower. Muscle memory by month three.

Full Salon — They handle everything, every visit. Simpler, costs more. A lot of guys find it worth the extra cost.

Questions to ask at your first appointment

What bases do you specialize in?
What adhesive do you use and why?
Can I bring in my own hair system?
What does the maintenance schedule look like?
Can you walk me through home maintenance?
What's the realistic replacement timeline?

A specialist who welcomes these questions is the right one.
